Having later decided to migrate to a single system that could integrate both aspects of its operations, CBI finally opted for NetFreight following a demonstration of the latest version at this year’s MultiModal show. Placing the order at the show also qualified CBI for a free iPad – an offer designed to highlight NetFreight’s portable working capability, with apps for all web-enabled devices including iPads and iPhones. Says CBI Director Nigel Sleigh: “Value for money was a key factor in choosing NetFreight, as were increased productivity resulting from eliminating double-keying of data into two systems, along with product flexibility and after sales support. "Assistance in moving many years’ customer data from our old system to its replacement was also critically important, and Impatex made this process seamless and simple. "Finally, we are also very attracted by NetFreight’s ability to operate on the move, using portable devices. This will become increasingly important to us in the future." Adds Impatex Northern Area Manager Ian Dumkow: “We have been in discussions with CBI for some time, and many of the improvements now embodied in NetFreight are thanks to their very helpful input. "Once CBI decided on NetFreight, we devoted considerable effort and resource to the transfer of their data from another supplier’s software into our own, successfully maintained the links to their accounting system and accommodated the charge codes that drive their job costing and invoicing. We also provided on-site installation and training to make the switch to our system as simple and efficient as possible." CBI Global Freight Management is a Subsidiary of Globelink China Logistics Group, which has over 30 offices spread across three continents. Impatex takes first e-freight step with US users Impatex – the growing supplier of international customs and forwarding software - has taken its first step into e-freight with the introduction of the FWB (electronic master airwaybill) and FHL (electronic house airwaybill) messages to its web-based NetFreight system. The new functions are initially being provided to the company’s growing customer base in the USA, and follow on from the recent introduction of ICS (Import Control System) capability to NetFreight. Later, Impatex will provide these messages to all its NetFreight customers in the UK and elsewhere. Explains Impatex MD Peter Day: “We have already provided our US customers with ICS functionality so that they would be able to comply with the new EU regulations. “Carriers operating from the USA are now taking the position that they want to be the ones to submit declarations to EU Customs, as they are ultimately responsible for the accuracy and punctuality of the data. “It therefore makes sense for us to add the FWB and FHL messages to NetFreight, so that agents can submit these to the carriers, who can then use that data to populate their ICS declarations. In most cases, this will save agents around $10 per airwaybill, as the carriers charge a reduced declaration fee where they receive data electronically.” He adds: “This is a first step in providing e-freight functionality for our customers, and will be followed by full capability in due course. E-freight makes huge sense, both from an ecological and business efficiency standpoint, and we consider it an essential aspect of our future offering.” |
